Mon-PM: 9 mi (1:16) // Upper Mississippi loop
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x), Lake St. (1x), Franklin St. (1x)
Easy run. Starting to see some shades of green out there. Forgot how full and dark the greens can be in the Minnesota "spring." Looks like some of the trails are drying out too. Won't be long now!

Tue-PM: 8 mi (1:03) // Mississippi riverfront
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x)
Out along the Mississippi and back: 2 mile warm-up, 4 mile tempo (6:46 avg; splits = 6:43, 6:39, 6:56, 6:44), 2 mile cool-down. First speed-work in shorts and a t-shirt since last fall! Gusty headwind coming back home (25+ mph). Probably the last tune-up before the marathon next Saturday. Easy, short stuff from here on out, trying to inject some freshness and springiness back into the legs. In some ways, I think the taper is the hardest part of the training cycle -- pulling back after it's been go, go, go.
In other news, I mailed off my entry for the Minnesota Voyageur 50 mile in July. Should be interesting!
A good, happy birthday breakfast with Ashley this morning too!

Fri-PM: 6 mi (:57) // Mississippi riverfront
Tried to wait out the wintry mix, but finally gave in. Rain, cold, sleet, snow . . . the winter continues. At least for a few more days.

Sat-PM: 7 mi (:58) // Upper Mississippi loop
Lake St. (2x), Franklin St. (2x)
Two easy loops. Tried out some new road shoes: Scott T2C Evo's. Was planning to hold off until next spring before investing in some more road shoes (hopefully be switching over to mostly trail running soon), but since Ashley needed a new pair anyways, we headed to the store, and one thing led to another, and yeah. Like them so far. A bit more durable than the Nike Free's I've been running in, with a little more cushion too. They're obviously a little more shoe than I'm used to (8.5 oz vs. 7 oz), but I think it will be worth the transition back off the edge of minimalism. The Free's are a great design, but they just don't hold up well for higher mileage training (especially the 20+ mile longer runs). They're rated for ~250-300 miles too, which is only about a month of training right now. Thankful to have such a knowledgable running store nearby -- TCRC. Great visit this afternoon!
