Weekly Summary: Feb. 18-24

02-18-13
Mon-AM: 20 mi (2:50) // Fort Snelling
Parked at the river and ran south to, and around, Fort Snelling before heading back. Nice day for a run, near +30F with snow-free, ice-free paths. Monday afternoon must be a heavy air-travel time. Probably saw 7-8 planes land during my few miles inside the park. For some reason, I find watching planes land rather inspiring. Enjoyed breaking in some new shoes too, second pair in the Nike Free 4.0v2's:

The new shoes decision is always tough for me, but after ~950 miles on my first orange pair
it was time for a replacement.

02-19-13
Tue-AM: 13 mi (1:53) // Lower Mississippi Loop
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x), Sabo (2x), Intercity (1x), Lake St. (1x)
Cold (+6F), windy (25 mph, -13 WC), and sunny; the kind of cold that makes your face hurt, the kind of windy that makes running in a straight line undesirable, and the kind of sunny that makes you think about spring's arrival. Always happens about this time in February.

02-20-13
Wed-AM: 11 mi (1:30) // Lake of the Isles
The usual early morning wake-up loops (4x). Chilly at the start (-5F), but warmed nicely near zero with the sunrise. I've learned that if I can make it through ~20 minutes of numbness, things (feet, hands, soul, etc.) usually thaw out after that. Sensed a slight onset of nostalgia as I was finishing the last lap, wondering if this could be my last Wednesday morning at the Lake of the Isles. With Ashley's due date next Friday (3/1), schedules will change. It was only slight though . . . the cold has a way of distracting thought.

02-21-13
Thu-AM: 12 mi (1:29) // Mississippi Riverfront
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x)
Moved up the weekly tempo run a day or two with 6" of snow in the forecast for later tonight/tomorrow: 2-mile warm-up, 8-mile tempo (6:38 avg; splits: 6:53, 6:33, 6:33, 6:39, 6:47, 6:40, 6:34, 6:21; no gels), 2-mile cool-down. Happy with the effort, best average thus far in the training cycle. Hard to know what kind of fitness I'm in right now with the weather and footing obstacles. Legs felt good though.

02-22-13
Fri-PM: 7 mi (1:07) // Greenway
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x), Sabo (2x)
Easy recovery run through the snowflakes.

02-23-13
Sat-PM: 12 mi (1:47) // Upper Mississippi Loop
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x), Sabo (2x), Lake St. (1x), Franklin St. (1x)
A few puddles of water out there to tip-toe around, but the windless late afternoon air was pleasant. I feel like the harsh part of the winter might be nearing its end, especially with March just over the horizon. I've been prematurely optimistic before. Another solid week of miles though -- 7-day total of 83 miles going back to last Sunday.

02-24-13
Sun: 0
Rest.

Totals: 75.0 mi (10:34, 18 bridges)
