Mon-PM: 18 mi (2:34) // Greenway--Fort Snelling State Park
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x)
Well, that was cold . . . in fact, the coldest run of my life: -5F (-25F WC). Not as bad as I thought it would be (started to relax once I made it through mile 1 without turning into an ice cube), but I did have some difficulty keeping my fingers unfrozen -- even inside of ski gloves. (May need to explore additional clothing options for sub-zero temps.) Today's run will be mentally important for similar coldness in days ahead. Minnesota winters have made me realize that there are, in fact, "degrees" of coldness. Not all cold is created equal . . . Legs felt good though. And, I found that back entrance into the park I was looking for last Monday. It's much less icy, and thus more runnable. (1 gel)

Tue-PM: 9 mi (1:18) // Greenway--Upper Mississippi loop
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x), Lake St. (1x), Franklin Ave. (1x)
Another cold one near +0F. Pleasant and peaceful in its own way though. The sunshine helps.

Wed-AM: 8 mi (1:10) // Greenway--riverfront
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x), Sabo (2x)
Easy, recovery run before work. Never thought I'd say this, but +12F has never felt so warm! Tried to take a picture of an oddly placed rainbow in the sky (see middle below), but didn't turn out too well (winter photography = difficult):

Thu-PM: 10 mi (1:28) // Greenway--riverfront
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x)
2 mile warm-up, 3 mile tempo (7:06 avg; splits: 7:03, 7:10, 7:05; no gels), 5 mile "cool-down." Probably timed this one too close to lunch; wasn't feeling great early on and decided to call it after 3 miles. Not too worried about it, but the shuffle back home felt long under the cold, gray skies.

Sat-PM: 14 mi (1:48) // Mississippi Riverfront--lower loop
Intercity (2x), Fort Rd. (1x), Lake St. (1x)
Parked at a friend's house and jogged over to the riverfront while Ashley went inside for a baby shower. Decided to mix in a 5 mile tempo to make-up for what I missed on Thursday (6:33 avg; splits: 6:31, 6:34, 6:47, 6:26, 6:28; no gels). Nearly +20F, which was 25 degrees warmer than it was on Monday! Even though this has been the "coldest week in Minneapolis in the last 4 years" (quote from a friend), I'm thankful that the footing has been mostly perfect. The wind and cold are formidable enemies, but if the footing is icy . . . it's difficult to move at any decent pace or enjoy the outdoors since you're staring at the ground the whole time.
