Justification by Running?

Even though physical exercise like running can be a help to holiness, we go astray when we think (or feel) that God's delighting in us is based on physical exercise. God's delighting in us does not rise and fall with our weekly mileage. Consider, like I did this morning, Psalm 147:10-11:

His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love.

What does God tell us is the basis of his delight in and pleasure towards someone? Answer: a fitting fear towards him and a humble hope directed at his steadfast love—which, in the fullness of time, made itself known in a person when God sent Jesus, his loved son, into the world to be judged for unlovely sinners like us! (1 John 4:9-10; Romans 5:8)

God loves those who love this Jesus; God delights in those who find their delight in this Jesus; God takes pleasure in those who take pleasure in this Jesus!

Doesn't that make you want to go outside and run for joy?
