Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x)
Out the Greenway, and back. A pretty tired run, physically and mentally. I'm not sure I've ever felt so good immediately following the finish of an ultra as I did last weekend (and so thought normal training rhythms might resume quickly), but this week is looking more and more like a full week of recovery. Considering it's also toward the end of the academic semester, that might not be such a bad thing.

Pike Island (2x)
Fort Snelling State Park, around the Pike Island loop w/Ashley and then a quick up and down of one of my favorite hills in Minneapolis. Didn't get any pictures, but the new shades of green everywhere sure made the park something to behold. As much fun as snatching leaves throughout the fall is (I think last season's official count got up to 34!), the onset of some trail running autumn/winter loneliness is never far off. Slowly but with momentum (like the initial movings of a train), the trees empty themselves, the animals leave for somewhere warmer (probably Chattanooga), and the colors fade. What felt like eavesdropping on warm, extended conversations around a fire gives way to awkward spaciousness and silence. Soon, it seems the only noise left in the forest is the muted duet of the runner's own breathing and footsteps. But, with the coming of spring comes the return of the birds' chirping, the trees' creaking, and the colors' unfolding. It feels very much like friends catching up after a long winter. Once again, the runner can enjoy fading into the background. Let the 2012 eavesdropping commence!

Totals: 10.0 mi (1:35, 4 bridges)
