3-Week Summary: Sept 2-22

09-02-13
Mon-PM: 2.8 mi (:26) // Lake Harriet
An easy loop around the lake, with Ashley & Sam. Got some strange looks for wearing a headlamp in the middle of the day, but wanted to see how it felt to wear a hat underneath - which was not bad! Wish I wasn't gear testing so close to race day, but it is what it is. Legs feel good.

09-03-13
Tue-PM: 4 mi (:42)
Just shaking out the legs. Thought about testing out a bandana + headlamp combo since it would be lighter than a hat, but decided before I hit the trail that it would be too difficult to keep it tied comfortably, etc., over the course of a hundred. I may also just be bad a tying them. Gonna stick with the hat through the night on Friday!

Fri/Sat: 103.3 mi (27:07)
Too many bridges to count!
A pretty solid run, 5th overall. Started out conservative in the heat & humidity, but steadily moved up throughout the day as the miles passed. Ran most of the 2nd half alone as the heat really thinned the field out (only a 49% finisher's rate). Sat down once for ~25 minutes to settle the stomach (~55 miles in), but otherwise kept it moving. Had a great support crew to keep me on my feet with Ashley, Sam, my mom and dad following me through the day, and then my parents staying up through the night! Definitely a team effort. Overall, a great first 100 on a really tough course. Lots to learn from and digest. Easily the toughest trail I've ever run on . . . and the most beautiful. Hope to be back next year!

09-18-13
Wed-AM: 5 mi (:47) // Greenway
Bridge Which Must Not Be Named (2x)
Easy run, first one since Superior. Legs felt good, ready to run again. Still gonna keep it easy over the next couple weeks. Time to enjoy God's gift of fall!

09-19-13
Thu-PM: 1.1 mi + 3.4 mi (:11 + :32) // Cedar Ave + Upper Mississippi loop
Franklin St. (1x), Lake St. (1x)
A short jog to pick up the car from the mechanic. Bumped into my friend Matt along the way, so he gave me a ride the rest of the way. Lots of cars and stoplights along Cedar! After getting the car squared away, drove over the river for an easy loop. Legs feel okay, but still some, deep lingering fatigue to work out over the next week or so. Beautiful weather. Feels like fall is just around the corner . . .

As a sad side note, I got word today from the Stillwater Fire Department that the Fight the Fire 5k has been cancelled this year. Bummer. What to do now?

09-20-13

09-21-13
Sat-PM: 6.5 mi (1:01) // Fort Snelling State Park
Pike Island (2x)
Around the park trails, with one loop in the island forest that is Pike Island.

09-22-13
Sun-PM: 5.5 mi (:59) // Mississippi trails
Along the river. Leaves are starting to hide the trail. Almost that time of year to start catching leaves . . .
