Rest day . . . flew to Atlanta, drove up to Tennessee. Staying here for a day or so with friends:

Tue-PM: 3 mi (:34) // Gravel roads (near Altamont, TN)
Easy, shakeout run with Ashley. Saw two foxes. Roads reminded me of the middle Tennessee rolling blacktops of the Strolling Jim 40m. Legs still feeling tired, but relatively intact.

Sat-PM: 8 mi (1:08) // Neighborhood (Dothan, AL)
Around circles and cul-de-sacs, from the front door. Hot and humid, with little wind or shade. Only relief was from a passing cloud here and there. First run I've decided to cut short in a while due to heat (+92F, 60% humidity). Legs seem to be bouncing back though. Will try to get out the door earlier tomorrow!

Sun-AM: 7 mi (1:04) // Neighborhood (Dothan, AL)
More circles and cul-de-sacs. A 7am start helped with the heat & humidity, but still soaked in sweat. Right heel is feeling a little tender -- probably a leftover ache from Voyageur.

Mon-AM: 10 mi (1:28) // Westgate Park (Dothan, AL)
Three counterclockwise loops. Saw a turtle. Right heel felt a little better. Went to Water World with the family afterwards to cool off. A nice 1-2 punch, or grab:

Tue-PM: 9 mi (1:11) // Neighbor (Dothan, AL)
Circles and cul-de-sacs, round 3. Just kept thinking, "Man, it's really hot outside." Heel is mostly back to normal, I think.

Wed-PM: 10 mi (1:29) // Westgate Park (Dothan, AL)
Three counterclockwise loops. Still hot and humid, but not as bad as I was expecting. May have caught a break with some cloud cover.

Thu-AM: 11.5 mi (1:59) // Kennesaw Mountain (Kennesaw, GA)
Kennesaw Mtn bridges (2x)
Started at the Visitor Center, took the side trail around the mountain over to Burnt Hickory, then hit the goat trails to Dallas Hwy (one of my favorite sections on Kennesaw), then to the Cheatham Hill parking lot for a water stop and a gel (the old spigot has disappeared!), then turned around and headed back to the Visitor Center by going up over the mountain -- up Pigeon Hill, up little Kennesaw, up Big Kennesaw, then down the steep backside. Nearly had to outrun a thunderstorm on the way back. First heard some low rumblings behind me on the return crossing of Dallas Hwy that then picked up as I was climbing little Kennesaw. Decided I would ride it out under one of the big rocks if needed. I always love these trails, and the over-the-mountain sections feel very similar to the SHT. Wish I could stay longer!

Fri-PM: 6 mi (:56) // Neighborhood (Kennesaw, GA)
Two loops, just like the good ole days growing up. Nothing like some heat, humidity, and hills to make you feel slow and out of shape. Had forgotten how hilly our neighborhood is! I always love how the mind finds familiar cracks in the pavement on familiar routes like this. Have probably run hundreds of loops here over the years.

Sat-AM: 7 mi (1:08) // Kell HS track (Kennesaw, GA)
Easy loops (24 of them!) with Lauren, then one faster mile at the end in 5:25. Couldn't resist a little speed since I so rarely find myself on a track, though I felt a little rusty hitting the first quarter split in 72 (way too fast!). We ran mostly on the outside lanes and watched the XC teams run a time trial, which we guessed to be 1.5 miles. Great morning, even if still hot & humid. Think I may be finally be getting "used to" it (= able to run what I want, without passing out) but catching a flight back home to Minneapolis later this afternoon.
