3-Week Summary: Jun. 22-Jul. 12

The last several weeks have been busy with movement: a move to a new house in a new city, a move to visit family and the Florida beaches, and, of course, lots of moving of my two legs here and there. Time to play catch up:

06-22-15
Mon-AM: 7 mi (:57) // Edgewater Park
Final miles in Albert Lea for the foreseeable future. Cloudy skies, which gave way to lightening and thunderstorms toward the end. Had to outrun the weather back home! Nice, memorable way to end things.

06-23-15
Tue: 0
Moved from Albert Lea back to the Cities. Unpacking. Uff, da.

06-24-15
Wed-PM: 6 mi (:54) // Roads
Short run after work around the paved paths near the house. Just exploring. Still surprised by how hilly the area is! Keep having to remind myself that I'm in Minnesota and not Georgia. Think I've forgotten how the hills don't really allow you much time to warm up. Think I'm going to like the new terrain though!

06-25-15
Thu-AM: 8 mi (1:16) // Lebanon Hills Regional Park
Ran down to the park trails from the back porch. Finally got to do one of the runs I've been waiting for, one of the reasons for buying the house - roll out of bed and stumble down to the trails to wake up. Had the park to myself too!

06-26-15
Fri: 0
Flew out late to Atlanta, then a late night drive to Dothan, AL. Uff, da.

06-27-15
Sat-AM: 12 mi (1:47) // Neighborhood (Dothan, AL)
Three laps around the neighborhood roads. Drenched by sweat at beginning of the run by heat/humidity (though a mild morning for AL), then drenched by a thunderstorm towards the end. Nice! Hello, Southern weather. A little sluggish after yesterday's travel and late night arrival, but felt okay.

06-28-15
Sun: 0
Rest, drive to beach.

07-02-15
Thu-AM: 10 mi (1:26) // On the Roads (Cape San Blas, FL)
Easy out and back from the beach house we've been staying at all week. A little hot and muggy as expected, but nothing too bad. Slight breeze made the run a little more enjoyable. Still not quite used to sweating through my entire shirt in the first 15 minutes of the run! Mostly bike paths the whole way - first time running on them since they've been finished on the cape. Love the smell of the sea and of hot pine straw baking in the sun - smells from my childhood!

07-03-15
Fri-AM: 14 mi (1:56) // Westgate Park (Dothan, AL)
Four+ clockwise loops around the park perimeter. Hot, soaked after a few miles. Good heat training for Voyageur, I suppose.

07-04-15
Sat-AM: 13 mi (1:57) // Westgate Park (Dothan, AL)
Four+ loops in counterclockwise direction - opposite of yesterday. Hot.

07-05-15
Sun-AM: 13 (1:59) // Neighborhood (Dothan, AL)
Loops in the neighborhood. Took it easier than usual easy.

07-06-15
Mon-AM: 8 mi (2:21) // Kennesaw Mountain National Park
Late morning run at the mountain with Daddy. Parked at Burnt Hickory, then ran the goat trails towards Dallas Hwy before heading across Burnt Hickory and then up and over Little & Big Kennesaw. Took an aid station break at the Visitor Center to refuel, then came back around the side trails then down Pigeon Hill to the Burnt Hickory parking lot. Tough but beautiful trails! Good training for Superior 100!

07-07-15
Tue-AM: 7.5 mi (2:07) // Red Top Mountain State Park
Easy morning run with Daddy. Did the Iron Hill trail with an add-on loop out through the campground. Beautiful trails on a quiet morning!

07-08-15
Wed-AM: 11 mi (1:55) // Kennesaw Mountain National Park
Double crossing of Little & Big Kennesaw from the Burnt Hickory parking lot preceded by a "warm-up" out to Dallas Hwy and back via my favorite goat trails. A little hot near +90F, but felt good and lots of shade on the trails. Love any miles I can sneak in on the mountain! Back to Minnesota tonight.
It's go time.

07-09-15
Thu-PM: 8 mi (1:17) // Lebanon Hills Regional Park
Easy run to the park trails from the house after work. Did a loop around Schulze Lake and then did the loop around McDonough Lake. Thought that'd be enough mileage to then head home (trails are about 1.5 mi from the house), but the trails are deceptively short - maybe because they're windy? Anyways, wandered around for a few more miles, got lost a little bit, then got found, then headed back. Great afternoon adventure!

07-10-15
Fri: 0
Rest.

07-11-15
Sat-AM: 20 mi (3:18) // Lebanon Hills Regional Park
Late-ish morning start from the house (10:30am). Just exploring the new home trails. Got turned around a few times, but making progress in knowing where I am. Still thrilled to have such quality trails from the front door!

07-12-15
Sun-AM: 15.5 mi (2:31) // Afton State Park
One loop around the 50k course. On the trail running by 5:47am, just in time to see the sun rise. Early start to get finished before the church gathering started at 10:00am. Quiet and peaceful, as always. Lots of deer out and about, eating berries for breakfast. A few seemed startled by my sudden presence, but most seemed preoccupied with breakfast. Hope to be out here somewhat regularly over the next couple months for hill training in the river bluffs!
