Weekly Summary: Dec. 24-30

12-24-12
Mon-AM: 7 mi (1:04)
Neighborhood (Dothan, AL). Got in two loops, just ahead of some thunderstorms. Things in suburban Alabama that are not in downtown Minnesota at the moment: green grass, friendly neighbors, wind that is not chilled, rain that is not freezing, and horses.

12-25-12
Tue-PM: 5 mi (:42)
Neighborhood (Dothan, AL). Loop and a half around the neighborhood towards dusk. Enjoyed watching the moon come out. Rather peaceful and quiet out, though of the kind that comes before a storm. Happy Christmas!!

12-26-12
Wed-AM: 11 mi (1:34)
Neighborhood (Dothan, AL). Three+ loops around the neighborhood. Overcast, much cooler than the past few days (mid 40s). Rather windy too (30 mph gusts).

12-27-12
Thu-PM: 6 mi (:56)
Neighborhood (Kennesaw, GA). Couple loops around the neighborhood near dusk. Felt good to stretch the legs after the 5-hr drive from Dothan this morning/afternoon. Beautiful twilight colors in the sky, along with a bright, full, hazy moon. Good to be home!

12-28-12
Fri-AM: 6 mi (:54)
Neighborhood (Kennesaw, GA). Couple loops around the neighborhood, same as last night. Legs are starting to feel the effect of some of these hills.

12-29-12
Sat: 0
Rest.

12-30-12
Sun-PM: 10 mi (1:32)
Burnt Hickory goat trail bridge (2x)
Kennesaw Mountain. Late afternoon run on my favorite trails in the country. Lauren, Patrick, and Ashley came along and hiked the (very steep) trail to the top while I took the Visitor Center loop across Burnt Hickory and out to Dallas Hwy via the goat trails. (Same route on the return except connected back to the Visitor Center loop via Pigeon Hill.) Late afternoon made for some long, chilly shadows, but nothing a few quick miles couldn't fix. One simple way to warm-up on a run is to run faster. Tagged the last couple in 7:39 and 6:49, respectively. There's nothing like the feeling of flying on trails. Lots of folks out made for a few awkward passing encounters, but the trails are just as soft and classic as ever . . .

Last bridge of 2013, between the goat trails of Burnt Hickory-Dallas Hwy!

Hope to get out and re-connect with some more of the mountain trails on the back side before heading back north later this week -- we'll see!

Totals: 45.0 mi (6:42, 2 bridges)
