6a start along the Greenway w/Ashley, trying to take advantage of the cool left over from some late night thunderstorms (+70F/79%). Glorious sunrise.

Afton bridges (18x)
Afton State Park. Afton Trail 50k, in three words: scenic, demanding, satisfying. Whew, that was a tough one! Lots of short (and steep) up and downs took their toll after a while. The beautiful scenery of the St. Croix River Valley helped with some of the pain. A couple technical, rocky sections kept things interesting. No falls though. Had some minor stomach issues after trying the race sponsor drink, "Heed." Stuck to water for the rest of the race. But...as always, the struggles make it all the more enjoyable! 18th overall. Two loops around the park: 1st = 2:08, 2nd = 2:29. A rough patch at the beginning of the 2nd loop for a few miles, but finished strong. Probably passed 5-6 in the last 4 miles. What a day!
