The Joy of Discovery

Whether it's a new tasty meal, forgotten cash from the back pocket, a new friend, or a spouse, there's something undeniably joyful about discovery.

I must have cruised by it head down on the Mississippi trail hundreds of times, but today I enjoyed looking up and discovering this:

(from the base—where climbing would commence)

Then, I discovered how it got so tall:
(This came to mind: "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the the law of Yahweh,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
But the wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away." Ps. 1:1-4)

And then, doing what any sensible explorer would do, I discovered the root of roots:
(I give it at least 15 feet of thick, visible windiness. It's hard to say how deep the roots go though...)

Wonder what else is out there to discover?
